Hollow knight. Richard Dawson, (Colin Lionel Emm), British actor and television game-show host (born Nov. 20, 1932, Eng.—died June 2, 2012, Calif.), costarred as RAF Corp. Peter Newkirk in the American TV sitcom Hogan’s Heroes (1965–71), set in a prisoner-of-war (POW) camp, but he achieved far greater renown as the host (1976–85; 1994–95) of the long-running Family Feud. After a three-year stint in the, Dawson became a stand-up comedian and actor. Supporting roles on American TV and in the World War II-set films King Rat (1965) and The Devil’s Brigade (1968) earned him the part of the cheeky Newkirk, whose skills as a con man, pickpocket, and master forger made him invaluable to the other POWs as they outwitted their bungling German captors. After Hogan’s Heroes went off the air, Dawson was a frequent celebrity panelist on TV game shows before being tapped to host Family Feud, a show based on contestants’ ability to guess the answers that studio audience members had given to a series of questions.
Dawson’s personal charm and witty banter (along with his penchant for kissing all of the women contestants) made Family Feud one of TV’s hottest syndicated game shows, broadcast as many as 11 times a week, and reportedly made Dawson one of TV’s highest-paid celebrities. Dawson parodied his own image in the dystopian The Running Man (1987).

If your answer was a) Romantic poets, b) Renaissance painters, c) justices of the Supreme Court or d) anything else highbrow or civic-minded, you’d probably have “matched” any of the anthro-critics who considered American discourse in deep decline.
